"Michaele's use of fired paper clay, with wire armature's, coupled with very colorful cold finishes create a perfect blend of style and technique, giving her pieces a unique quality and a clear expression of her energetic personality."

Artist Statement

Michaele Morgan-Greene

For as long as I can remember, I have loved Rock and Roll.  I love the music, the lyrics and equally, the names of the bands themselves.  Songs evoke feelings and memories in most of us, but for me, they conjure visual images as well.  This also holds true for the names the artists have chosen for their groups; Pearl Jam for example, makes me smile and think of exactly that –pearl jam.  Rolling Stones embeds a visual in my mind as one who literally rolls stones.

I have loved clay since my first days in Betty Windes' high school ceramic class.  Wheel throwing, hand building; it didn’t matter – I simply loved it.  While most girls were going to the movies with their boyfriends, I was at the kitchen table with mine; making ceramic pieces.  Mrs. Windes inspired me and made me look at things I had never seen or considered before. I will be eternally grateful to that wonderful woman.

There have been many long periods in my life without clay. There have also been several stops through the years, including working directly from the figure, subtractive experiments and working in oil based clay.

I have never been happier than when I began to use my fingers to sculpt the visions that come to me when I listen to Rock and Roll music; certain songs or artists.  One of my challenges is to work fast enough to create all the pieces that go through my mind.  Although I scribble down notes and ideas, it seems that I never need those pieces of paper. For once the image has been imprinted on my mind; my hands are determined to sculpt that vision.  And as you might imagine, the images of Rock and Roll are endless.
